Nothing to install. Start free.

Tesserae Cloud runs Tesserae for you: connect a display, pick a dashboard, and it stays up to date with nothing to install or look after. The open-source Tesserae Server stays free on hardware of your own, and your panels work with either.

Pick a starting point

30 dashboards in 5 looks, ready for your panel. Start with one, then change anything in the editor.

Real renders from Tesserae Cloud at 800×480, with sample data.

How it works

  1. 01Connect your panelFlash it from Chrome or Edge over USB, or point a TRMNL or a KOReader e-reader at Tesserae Cloud. Your first panel shows a dashboard as soon as it pairs.
  2. 02Pick a starting pointThe day, the weather, the year so far, a countdown, a quote. Weather starts out set to the city your panel connects from.
  3. 03Change anything laterEdit it in the browser, build your own from widgets and code, or describe a change to an AI assistant you connect.

Updates over the air
Signed firmware, rolled out from your panel list.
Verified hardware
The same panels that work with the self-hosted server.

Questions people ask

How often does my panel refresh?

As often as you set it to wake, down to the plan's fastest interval: every 15 minutes on Free is about 100 refreshes a day. Most battery panels are happiest waking less often, and when nothing on the dashboard has changed the panel keeps its picture instead of redrawing. A dashboard drawn by a browser also spends the plan's browser time: Free's fifteen minutes a day is about a fresh picture every half hour, while Ink dashboards and photo frames are drawn by the cloud itself and are not counted.

What is the difference between Ink and web dashboards?

An Ink dashboard is drawn by Tesserae Cloud directly: type, charts, calendars, heatmaps, timelines, photos, QR codes and drawings, in any of the panel's colours. It needs no browser, so it costs almost nothing to run, and most dashboards can be one. A Script page (your own HTML, CSS and JavaScript) or a Mosaic layout (widgets in a grid) is drawn by a browser instead: anything a web page can do, at the cost of browser time. Plans count those separately, which is the "browser-drawn" line in the table; Free has one, alongside its Ink dashboards.

What happens when I reach a limit?

Your panels keep showing what they have. New renders resume with the next day's allowance, and adding a panel or a dashboard beyond the plan asks you to move up. The console says which limit you hit.

Can I move to self-hosting later?

Yes. A panel is never tied to Cloud: point it at a Tesserae Server of your own at any time. Cloud dashboards are specific to Cloud and would need recreating there.

Which panels work?

The same list as the self-hosted server, firmware included. See theverified hardware on the overview page.

Can I cancel?

Any time, from Settings in Cloud. The plan runs to the end of what you have paid for, then the account returns to Free.

I sponsor Tesserae on GitHub. Anything for me?

A year of Supporter, on the house.Email hello@tesserae.ink from the address on your Tesserae Cloud account with your GitHub name, and it's switched on by hand.

What does Unlimited cost?

It depends on the fleet, so it's agreed rather than listed.Email hello@tesserae.ink with roughly how many panels and how often they refresh.

Why charge at all when the server is free?

Cloud renders your dashboards on machines we pay for, every wake, for every panel. The paid plans cover that and keep the open-source project funded. Running it yourself costs you nothing but your own hardware.

Prices are list prices in each currency, tax included where it applies. The open-source server is at github.com/dmellok/tesserae.
